stadverk is based in Malmö and Lund of the Greater Copenhagen region and was founded by Ville Kronlid Levin and Jonathan Svensson.
Their collaboration followed upon year-long discussions and investigations into their shared interest in the artistic, pedagogical and academic aspects of architecture and a shared desire to contribute to architectural discourse.
Ville Kronlid Levin holds an MArch from Lund University (LTH). He did his exchange semester in Bergen where he studied under Jan Liesegang, one of the founders of raumlabor. There he attended a workshop led by Momoya Kaijima, one of the founders of atelier bow-wow, focused on designing by artistic sketching and techniques of representation in architecture. This greatly influenced him, and after he was the first winner of the Jim Asklund Scholarship grant he had a semester long study trip in China, India and Japan during which he greatly expanded his architectural vocabulary as well as his understanding and proficiency in drawing to understand and communicate architecture. He later deepened this understanding in his thesis, Sketches of Maracena, where he studied the use of artistic drawing methods in the architectural process as well as techniques of representation in the context of informal settlements in Dar es-Salaam, Tanzania.
Jonathan Svensson is a master student in Architecture at Lund University (LTH). He did his internship at Abelardo Gonzalez Arkitektbyrå where he was trained in an artistic and design-oriented approach to architecture. Abelardo had an extensive pedagogical influence on him, as well as the region as a whole; seeing as many prominent architects and academics such as Andreea Marcu, Per Johan-Dahl and the current head of school at LTH, Jesper Magnusson worked for or did their internship at his firm early in their careers. After his internship Jonathan returned to LTH where he deepened his understanding of the creative process and the impact on it of e.g. artistic methods and digital tools, through studying the Spatial Experiments master-course and developing his subject knowledge further in his thesis project. He also writes about, and has a great interest for, architectural as well as artistic process, pedagogy and discourse.
